It can be used as a transport, but HOPO does offer a lot more than that! It is actually a very nice day cruise along GC famous canal and. It is very convenient to take my family to Broadwater Parkland, and Sea World. Friendly Skipper gives us some information about surrounding view including luxury waterfront houses, etc. It’s a great way to explore GC waterways!
Highly recommend going on the HOPO Ferry. We decided to drive to Marina Mirage to take a ferry ride through the Gold Coast Waterways. Bought a day ticket at an amazing low cost of $10 (Concession rate for age 60 and over) We were welcomed onboard by Captain Wayne who was our seafaring host for the day. Captain Wayne proved to be an expert who navigated the ferry across to the Southport Aquatic Park before heading to the Arts Centre at Bundall via a stop at Surfers Paradise. Captain Wayne navigated the waterways expertly, his knowledge of local attractions, house prices etc was both insightful and entertaining. Can l mention that his playlist for the day was also extremely good. I would highly recommend the HOPO Ferry hop on hop off service for any tourist or local who is wanting to visit SeaWorld, Marina Mirage, Surfers Paradise, HOMO Arts Centre or the Southport Park Aquatic Park precinct. A hidden gem that should now be more widely used. Skipper Wayne was a very friendly and helpful crew person who delighted in sharing his local's knowledge. The cost pp is a bargain; especially with their over 65s discount. We paid for a loop ticket but the all day pass is also very good value. 4 hour free car parking is available at the HOTA stop; though in busy periods periods Mon-Fri who might have to use the paid parking area adjacent. I am a keen photographer so I was also very pleased with the opportunity for some water based views. Snapping the TSS school boys out rowing and sailing in the late afternoon also gave me some pleasing images. More visitors (and locals) should support this travel initiative.
What a great way to travel! Sparkly clean ferries, friendly and funny crew. Informative and entertaining commentary (that you can hear perfectly through a really great sound system). We encountered three crew across the day and each were absolutely first class. Great customer service, welcoming and a really lovely experience.
Excellent ferry ride which we got on at Surfers and went to Sea World and back again. On the way back we got off at Southport Broadwater for an hour, next stop Marina Mirage for 2 hours where we had lunch and a walk around. Then HOTA for an hour. Art Gallery not open as a new HOTA centre is being built but had a relaxing walk around the area. Final stop at Surfers. Staff were great. Needs advertising more. $10 each (Senior Concession Special Mon-Fri).
My wife and I were first time riders on the HOPO Ferry during our recent stay at Sheraton Grand Mirage. What a GREAT time we had. We did the hop on hop off but thoroughly enjoyed our time with skippers Jess & Coralee (sp?). Jess took the time to tell us who's house we were going past while she kept the ferry's clear blinds clean and tidy. The ferry is such a great option if you're staying at the Sheraton. Vicki and I have booked another stay at the Sheraton and HOPO Ferry was a big part of that decision. Thanks..!!!
I got on a single level ferry from Appel Park to Broadwater Parklands and thought it was a great trip. There were drinks available to purchase and the ferry goes at a leisure pace so you can see all the mansions along the water. As a resident of the Gold Coast it's a shame of the timing as this would be full of customers all day had the border not closed, hopefully it stays around after the trial period.
