Awesome experience! We have seen several groups of humpback whales relatively close to the boat, they even breached 3 times! It was lovely sunny day, however a little bit windy. Good lunch was provided on board. In this tour you do not have time to spend on the island itself, the boat departs almost immediately after arrival. Don't forget to take the sunscreen, despite the fact that it was in winter, many passengers including myself returned back to the resort with red sunburned faces :D
Very smooth waters, a not too warm but sunny day and getting up close and personal with a lot of whales made for an excellent day’s whale watching cruise from Brisbane. Only slight fly in the ointment was no Disabled Parking at the starting wharf.
We jumped on the 7am ferry, it was an early start, but the kids (an 8 year old, a 4 years old & a 10 week old) where able to play on the beach for a few hours before we jumped onboard the whale watching boat! We saw lots of whales and some came very close to the boat! Lunch was advised as a light lunch, but I thought it was plenty! All the crew onboard are lovely, and as you can imagine with a very young baby and small children we had lots of stuff with us for the day! This was never an issue! Highly recommended and we've decided to visit again soon!!
This was an excellent experience from booking the day, right through to walking off the boat at the end of the day. Online booking and payment was seamless (with the added bonus of a huge discount if you book early). The date had to be changed a few days prior to the date we booked due to predicted high winds however, this too, was seamless and easily achieved. It is a full day, getting to the island, leaving again to go on the whale cruise, coming back and then re-boarding to come home again. But ... the team are professional, engaging, friendly and highly efficient so there is no effort involved in having to get on and off the boat. The Captain worked hard to get us as close as possible to a pod whilst ensuring he was still respectful of the whales and the law in relation to approaching. As a result, we got to see some amazing action from at least four different whales who stuck around for quite some time. The onboard amenities are great. Plenty of room to move around the boat, a bar for cold and hot snacks and clean, well maintained toilets. All in all, a wonderful adventure, and a relaxing though exciting way to spend the day.
What a day, from start to finish one of the best experiences I have ever had. Day starts with 90 min trip from Brisbane to Tangalooma. Once there everyone gets off with some staying on the island and the rest getting back on the same boat to go Whale watching. There are plenty of seats inside with seats also upstairs. Lunch is provided once you set off. Staff go through safety procedures and explain what is going to happen during the day. After about 30 mins we spotted our first humpback whale with a young calf, this was just the start, throughout this wonderful day we spotted loads of whales, turtles, Hammerhead shark and Dolphins. We were treated to a fantastic display by a young calf for nearly 30 mins which made everyone’s day. The staff were truly fantastic and made the day as well. If you suffer from sea sickness I would take something to help you. Staff do mention this on the boat. I can not understand how anyone can give a negative comment on this trip. We spent the day with family and friends who all had a great time as well.
Firstly if you are planning on doing a day trip to the resort I would recommend getting the earliest boat possible as one day is just not enough! I am so glad I got a 6am boat which gave over 4 hours to explore before the whale watching trip - and even that wasn't enough time! It was great the cafe was already open by the time we arrived at 7.15am, so I walked with a coffee up the gorgeous beach to the wrecks, alone almost the entire walk. It was perfect. The pelican feeding talk around 11am was a bonus before the 3 hour whale watching trip leaving at midday. Words cannot describe how excellent the cruise was - we saw countless whales up close putting on incredible displays, and all around us as far as the eye could see there were whales breaching and fin slapping. The commentary by Josh was highly educational, not only about the marine life but also about conservation and things we can do to help the environment - refreshing to hear someone talk passionately about such important topics. After the cruise there was 30-40mins back at the resort which I spent in the Eco Centre - well worth a visit if only to meet the gorgeous friendly swallow, George! By booking 2 weeks in advance the trip only cost $89, truly a bargain for such a memory filled day :)
